Trinity College Oak Hall Bench

This fine example of an early 18th century Oak Hall Bench situated in the Lodge entrance hallway was in very poor condition; all joints loose or damaged by past “improvements” such as nails and screws.

My treatment method required dismantling all joints, repairing with new Oak timber, building up the legs that had considerable decay caused by the bench standing on wet flag-stone floors. To complete the work new Oak pegs were used to replace those removed when taking the mortise and tenon joints apart.

The photo shows the oak settle following its restoration.
