King’s College Chesterfield Sofa

AAMR was commissioned by King’s College Cambridge to undertake extensive restoration on this Chesterfield sofa in order to furnish the Vice Provost Rooms. The sofa was stripped of all existing fabric and upholstery materials down to its beechwood frame, repaired, reupholstered using new and existing materials, and re-covered in the correct traditional deep-buttoned style.

The painted doors seen in the background were executed by Roger Eliot Fry (1866 – 1934), artist, critic and member of the Bloomsbury Group. Fry was an ex-scholar at King’s and in 1933 became Slade Professor. On his death in 1934 he was buried in King’s College Chapel.
